The NEOS Paintings. The Manchester And North of England Orchid
Society was (and still is) qualified to award
certificates and commendations to orchids of superior
quality on a par with the RHS; later the Society was
requested to rename its awards to avoid confusion.
Thus for example the highest award requiring 90%+ judged
points, the First Class Certificate (FCC), became the
First Class Diploma. In the early days, any member of
the Society on being awarded an FCC, had, at their own
expense, to pay for a botanical painting which became
the property of the Society for record purposes.
